New Innovative Treatments

OMNIWave™

OMNIWave™ is brand new technology that is non-invasive in the treatment of bone, joint, muscle and tendon injuries. OMNIWave™ is a machine that delivers acoustic waves to the targeted areas of the body, stimulating healing and reducing pain. It is called shockwave therapy, but there are no shocks delivered to the body. The device uses high-energy acoustic waves that penetrate deep into the tissue. These waves break up scar tissue, calcifications and stimulate the cells to elicit an inflammatory response. This response promotes healing of the tissue in a couple of different ways.

First, it causes the cells in the tissue to release growth factors and growth proteins. Secondly, it also stimulates angiogenesis (increase vascular formation), which increase blood flow into the tissue. The increase in blood flow brings in more oxygen, nutrients, collagen and growth factors into the tissue. All these factors are essential in the normal healing response of the body.

An added benefit is that the acoustic waves also help with downregulating the pain receptors and nerve endings. It stimulates the release of endorphins and helps to block the transmission of pain signals in the tissue.

The OMNIWave™ procedure is done in the office. There is very little discomfort with the procedure. Most patients don’t feel more that a little “twinge” while getting the treatment. The treatment takes about 10 minutes to perform.

I am happy to offer this non-operative approach to my patients. If you would like to know more information regarding the treatment, please call the office at 512-583-4212 or send us an email from the contact page of this website.

Exosomes

Regenerative medicine is an option we now can deliver that uses the body’s own tissues to repair injured bones, tendons, ligaments and joints. It can also help reduce pain, swelling and improve function by accelerating the body’s natural healing response.

Regenerative medicine uses substances derived from the body (blood, fat or marrow) to stimulate tissue repair. These products when injected into the correct spot of injury can release growth factors and signal the body’s own cells to increase the healing response.

Healing of different body parts is a complex and difficult process involving inflammation, cell proliferation and then remodeling of the tissue. In the body we all have special cells that can help the healing response. One type of these cells are called Mesenchymal Stem Cells. They help modulate the different phases of healing. We all make Stem Cells in our body, but as we age, we make less of them. These special cells influence the body by secreting bioactive molecules to promotes tissue repair. The problem with our own Stem Cells is that after the age of 40, we just don’t have a lot of them “floating” around in our blood that can help the healing response. Doing an injection into the injured site with these cells can improve the tissues healing potential.

What is it about the Stem Cells that help us heal? Within the Stem Cells there is a tiny package of bioactive proteins, lipids and RNAs that help the surrounding tissue heal. These tiny packages found in the Stem Cells are called Exosomes. Exosomes stimulate growth and help rebuild tissue. They also down regulate and calm the inflammatory process. Exosomes help with the inflammatory response, and they also help promote the proliferation phase of healing by increasing new blood vessel formation and deposition of growth factors and growth proteins around the injured body part. This stimulates further healing of the torn tendon, muscle, cartilage cell or broken bone.

Stem Cells or Exosomes are derived from tissue donated from human umbilical cords. Ethical FDA-compliant process is used for this process. The Stem Cells / Exosomes are checked for any bacterial and viral contamination by an independent CLIA-certified lab.

The placement of the Exosomes into the injured area of the body is done with an ultrasound guided needle.

Now that you are more informed on what is regenerative medicine ask one of our providers if is an appropriate approach to your current condition. This approach is usually combined with therapy, oral medication and sometimes surgery.
